The Best Actor award for the Academy Awards in 2022 has been announced. Will Smith won the award for his performance in Reinaldo Marcus Green's film King Richard. During his winning speech, the actor became emotional and sobbed. Will made headlines earlier in the evening when he punched Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. He said Jada reminded him of GI Jane 2. Will reprimanded Chris and told him to keep his hands out of his mouth in an enraged tone.
"Richard Williams was a staunch defender of his family," Will Smith remarked in his acceptance speech. I'm overwhelmed by what God is calling me to accomplish and be in this world at this point in my life." He continued, "I'd want to apologise to the Academy and to all of my fellow nominees. This is a lovely moment, and I'm not sobbing because I won an award. For me, it's not about getting an award. Life imitates art. I have the same appearance as Richard Williams' crazy father. But love will make you do crazy things.”

The other Best Actor nominations were Javier Bardem for Being the Ricardos, Benedict Cumberbatch for The Power of the Dog, Andrew Garfield for Tick, TickBoom!, and Denzel Washington for The Tragedy of Macbeth.
Will Smith punched comedian Chris Rock
Will Smith stormed the Oscars stage and punched comedian Chris Rock in the face for making a joke about his wife, in a moment that went viral and left astonished spectators wondering whether it was staged or genuine.
Rock had cracked a joke comparing Jada Pinkett Smith's sharply cropped hair to Demi Moore's appearance in the film "G.I. Jane" and recommending she star in a sequel when presenting the best documentary prize with a short comedy performance.
Smith rushed up to Rock and smacked him before returning to his seat with Jada and shouted profanities, eliciting awkward stillness and uncertainty in the Dolby Theatre. Later he apologized for the same during speech.

Meanwhile, Reinaldo Marcus Green directed and Zach Baylin wrote King Richard, a biographical sports drama. It tells the storey of Richard Williams, the father and coach of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams. Aunjanue Ellis, Saniyya Sidney, Demi Singleton, Tony Goldwyn, and Jon Bernthal co-star alongside Will Smith in the film.
Wanda Sykes and Amy Schumer, as well as actress Regina Hall, hosted this year's Oscars. The ceremony began at 5.30 a.m. IST on Monday, according to Indian Standard Time (March 28). Star Movies, Star Movies HD, and Star World broadcasted the Oscars 2022. The Academy's social media channels are also providing live information.
