Breaking News: Turbulence Strikes LATAM Airlines Flight from Sydney to Auckland


In a harrowing incident earlier today, a LATAM Airlines flight, operating on the Sydney to Auckland route, experienced severe turbulence attributed to a "technical glitch." At least 50 people were reportedly injured during the unsettling episode, according to initial reports.


LATAM Airlines Statement

LATAM Airlines Group released a statement confirming the occurrence, stating that flight LA800 encountered a technical event mid-flight, leading to a significant disturbance. The plane managed to land safely at Auckland Airport as scheduled, despite the turbulent conditions.


Following the incident, 7 passengers and 3 cabin crew members were taken to Middlemore Hospital for medical checks. Fortunately, no serious injuries have been reported among those who sought medical attention. LATAM Airlines expressed regret over any inconvenience and discomfort caused by the situation, emphasizing their commitment to prioritizing safety within the framework of operational standards.


As a response to the cancellation of the affected flight, LATAM has scheduled a new flight (LA1130) for March 12, 2024, departing from Auckland at 20:00 local time and heading to Santiago, Chile. The airline is providing affected passengers with essential services, including food and accommodation, to alleviate the impact of the flight cancellation.
