What Happened to Adani
Following a negative report on the company by US-based short
seller Hindenburg Research, shares of Adani Group plunged last week, pushing
its billionaire founder Gautam Adani from third to eighth position on the
Forbes Billionaires Index.
The business tycoon has lost nearly $41.7 billion (Indian Rupees 3,40,230 Crore) of his net
worth so far this year. According to Forbes on 31st December 2022 his
net worth was $128.6 billion. Adani’s wealth fell by $22.5 billion on Friday
and another $9.8 billion on Monday to $86.9 billion, and at 08th position in global richest list as showed in Forbes richest list.
With a net worth of $147 billion in September 2022,
Adani has surpassed Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, to claim the
second-richest position in the world. With net worths of $167 billion and $126
billion, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are ranked second and third in the index,
respectively, while Bernard Arnault of LVMH continues to hold the top spot.
The Hindenburg report has dented his net worth; most Indian
PSUs were handed over to Adani Group by the Modi government. Adani is not only
losing money alone; he is also going to drown the Indian economy. The Indian
economy is in danger now.
